Processing large numbers quickly becomes challenging, especially when there are many factors to take into account. The dataset that was drawn from the 1920 Suffolk County census data is available to peruse in the Records tab, but this page should be a useful precursor to parsing individual entries and making sense of the large record set. The visualizations below were created from the census data and illustrate trends or correlations relevant to the work and lives of these young women.
Note: if you choose to peruse the dataset, keep in mind that in order to access the links to original data sources, you will need to either have an Ancestry account or be able to log in through an institution affiliated with Ancestry. Many public libraries provide access to Ancestry.com records, which would allow you to view the linked census information when logged in on their wifi. Unfortunately, public access is not universal.
Navigate these interactive visualizations by clicking on the tabs across the top or the drop-down menu in the top left corner.
